About Mustard 21

Mustard 21 Canada Inc. (M21) is a non-profit corporation initiated by the Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission (SMDC) and the Canadian Mustard Association (CMA).

In 2009, Mustard 21 Canada Inc. was established as the research arm for its founding members: the Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission and the Canadian Mustard Association. Incorporated under the Canada Corporations Act and registered in the Province of Saskatchewan, Mustard 21 has the following Corporate Objectives:

  • Develop and implement strategic priorities and programs in key areas to enhance mustard production and value-added products.
  • Proactively secure and utilize resources to support programs for the development of condiment mustards and dedicated industrial oilseed crop i.e. Brassica carinata.
  • Implement a mustard breeding strategy with long-term resource support from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, provincial governments, and other funding agencies.
  • Strengthen relationships with other grower organizations pursuing complementary objectives.

To support the needs of the mustard industry, Mustard 21 in collaboration with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has developed three new higher-yielding condiment mustard varieties and a mustard variety for use as a cover crop or biofumigant.

Mustard 21 continues to invest in research to develop new varieties and identify opportunities for growth in value-added mustard products.
